Breast Imaging & Procedures

Johns Hopkins’ breast imaging radiologists are leaders in the field who specialize in breast imaging, reading only breast images. Studies1 have shown that specialist radiologists detect more cancers and more early-stage cancers and have lower recall rates than general radiologists.

Our state-of-the art breast imaging technology combined with expert interpretation will provide you with the best possible patient care.

Our experts perform both breast screening and diagnostic imaging services, including traditional mammography, 3-D mammography (tomosynthesis), breast ultrasound, breast MRI and breast biopsies, conducting more than 35,000 breast imaging exams each year.

Annual mammograms are the best tool for early detection of breast cancer. We provide a convenient and efficient annual screening mammogram for women over 40 or women with specific risk factors, as recommended by the American College of Radiology to help you proactively monitor your health.

Mammography detects most cancers in women who show no symptoms or who are considered low risk. False alarms can be stressful, but the fact is that early detection can save lives. 8 out of 10 women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history.

Our 3-D mammograms have new features that improve the accuracy of breast cancer detection and results in 20-40% less chance of being called back for a second look2. Our specialists are trained in mammography compression and placement to keep discomfort to a minimum while taking high quality images.

In order to best serve communities in the suburban Baltimore and Washington, D.C. area, we have locations in Bethesda, Columbia, Green Spring Station, and White Marsh. All of our imaging sites were designed for your comfort, with private dressing rooms and a peaceful atmosphere.

We provide imaging services with convenient appointment hours to accommodate your busy schedule. Our patient navigator is here to assist you in answering any questions or concerns, provide resources and ensure you have an overall positive experience. Please call 443-997-7237 to request an exam.
